Stream Report

Below Zero
Salmon River
Water Temp: 33ºF     Flow: 500 cfs

This report is on the Salmon River for this past weekend January 24 & 25. With the approaching weekend a cold front also came with it, and when we say cold, believe us it was very cold. Ambient temperatures being in the single digits combined with wind chill equated to below zero conditions which made for some really interesting fishing conditions.

Albeit the weather conditions were tough, the fishing was red hot! The steelhead were on fire attacking big speys & streamers on the swing. Of course we fished the usual patterns including both egg and natural imitations which also brought results. But the real fun was fishing those big patterns that we usually save for fall and spring when the fish are more active.

We recommend taking a trip soon before the action slows down!! One last note, please take extra caution when handling fish in these conditions. When taking pictures, please keep them in the water until absolutely ready, so we don't hurt them (ie. flash freeze gills). Best of luck to all and tight lines........
