|Cold, but Worth It|
|Water Temp: 33ºF Flow: 500 cfs|
|The steelhead action, for late January, was as expected. The cold temperatures slow everything down, and you need to adjust your presentation and locations to catch fish. Some fish are wintering over, others are still moving into the river.
We caught a mix of bright and dark fish. We focused our efforts mid-river, trying to stay away from the staler fish up river.
Dark, natural nymph patterns worked best: stone flies and caddis. Keep the tippets light, and your presentation, a tad slower than the current. We hit fish in the current breaks, closer to deeper water.
